This is a 12 month calendar, glossy, measuring 8.5" x 11" - featuring 12 unique digital images that I've created. What Inspires Me...

Sometimes I like to sit back and spend time recognizing in my life those things and people that inspire me in my photography and artwork.

Since blogs are designed to record our thoughts at a given moment in time I'd like to take this opportunity to go ahead and put down some thoughts on "Inspiration" and what I have found has helped me in my artistic endeavors.

First of all I would have to give credit to my Mom and Dad. My mother passed away in May 2000 from lung cancer. She had always been an artist. The painting and drawing she did came later in her life, but she always found art in other areas - singing (she sang beautifully!), playing the harp and the guitar, gardening, and making a lovely, serene, and comfortable home for family, friends, pets and anyone else who was lucky enough to stop by...

My Dad has always encouraged me to be creative. Whether he was taking me to ballet lessons on snowy Saturday mornings in St. Louis when I was little, buying me a flute and then providing me with lessons so I could actually learn to play the thing, or - more recently - visiting galleries and attending art classes, going "art store" shopping, reading art books, and simply just "talking art" - together.

When I think of my childhood - and even into adulthood - I remember a home based on love, where music was always playing, Mom was always singing, or cooking, or gardening (sometimes she'd even do all three at the same time - amazing!), and Dad was taking pictures and collecting closets full of antique cameras...I know I was blessed.

I truly hope that I will be able to inspire my children in such a way. That they will know "no fear" when it comes to expressing their creativity and individuality. And that I will be able to watch them grow into whatever God has planned for them to be. Artistic expression comes from the heart - every once in the while it's nice to let the heart have it's say.

Thanks for your comments everybody. Sometimes it is so difficult to get inspired or to overcome a creative block. I guess we all have those moments - it amazes me how when it finally returns it often comes back with a new "gusto"...it's sort of interesting the way that happens =)
