Poetry - for Artwords

My favorite all-time poet is Robert Louis Stevenson - I loved having his poems read to me when I was a child; and later, when I grew up, I enjoyed reading them again - to my own children (and yes, sometimes even to myself late at night when I can't sleep =) ... This poem in particular, entitled "To Any Reader" is my very favorite. In my very old copy of "A Child's Garden of Verses" this one is the poem I would ask my mom to read to me over and over again ... very sentimental, I know, but Stevenson's poetry does do that to me ... Oh well =) Anyway, I've included a pic of my childhood home in St. Louis and a copy of pictures of me when I was little and being happily spoiled rotten in the Lou (the handsome young man behind me in the photo on the sliding board is my wonderful big bro).

Morning - for Artwords this week ...

Morning has always been my most "magical" time of day ... I love to sit and watch the sun come up on the horizon with a nice hot cup of coffee in my hands, and plan my day's activities. I wanted this image to include a bit of "morning-type magic", so I used a lot of little star shapes, musical notes, and flowers, and just kind of got lost in its creation =)

Memorabilia Monday

Hello! Here is another image that you can use in your artwork if you'd like - it is an antique engraving from 1899. I will try to get a couple more on here today too - things here are rather BUSY BUSY right now, but hopefully I can take a breather in a bit LOL. Happy Monday to all =)

A Heart from Kathy!

This week in my mailbox I received an absolutely beautiful handmade heart and chain from Kathy Wasilewski. Isn't this too gorgeous?! I've hung it on the wall in my living room so that I can see it often and be reminded that through the best things in life - friends, family, and keeping a creative heart, even when struggling with loss and pain - we can find the strength to respond with hope and continuity.
Please visit Kathy's blog if you haven't already done so - she is an incredibly talented artist, a lovely person, and someone I am proud to call Friend =) ... her blog, Altered Antiquity, is listed here under my Links. Thank you again, so much, Kathy - I will treasure this, and your friendship, always!

Family Tapestry

This digital collage was made using vintage family papers, a photo of the Meyer family home in Havana, Illinois, and a photo of my grandmother when she was young. The flowers are from a black and white photo my Dad took of his garden a few years back ... I really love these creations the best, as they incorporate a lot of family memories...really nice, I do believe =)

When They Were Very Young

This quilt collage is inspired by my wonderful parents, seen above shortly after their wedding in 1944-45. They both loved art and beauty and family with their whole hearts, and their memory is what inspires me daily to keep on creating...I love this photo of them because they look so happy (doesn't my mom look pretty... and a little bit shy?) - their lives were waiting for them, all those wonderful years ahead....perfect together....

Memorabilia Monday

Hey everybody! I have decided to share some memorabilia from my collection of old photos, postcards and such. I thought this would be a good way to share with my art friends some various pieces of ephemera I've acquired through the years. Anyway, every Monday I will be posting a couple of items for you to use in your artwork. I hope you enjoy them...I'd love to see what you come up with using these images. So, Happy Monday...and have fun! =) ~ Peggi
